This week, we saw the Cinch Tennis Championship, which is currently held at The Queens Tennis Club. Here is a quick round of the week!

The cinch championship consists of 5 drawers: men’s singles, men’s wheelchair singles, men’s doubles, men’s doubles qualifying and men’s qualifying. 

Men’s Singles 

Round 1

This consisted of 4 matches, with Caspar Ruud of Norway taking on Ryan Peniston of Great Britain. Peniston beat Ruud to move forward to the next round with 98 points won. The second round 1 match was Francisco Cerundolo versus Pedro Martinez and Cerundolo won to move into round 2 to play against Peniston. The 3rd round 1 match was Jenson Brooksby vs Flip Krajinovic, in which Krajinovic moved into the second round. Sam Querrey took on Diego Schwartzman and Querrey took on Kraijnovic. 

Round 2

Ryan Peniston beat Francisco Cerundolo to proceed to the quarter-finals against Flip Krajinovic who beat Sam Querrey in round 2. Jack Draper played against Emil Ruusuvuori, where Ruusuvuori won and moved into the next round against Marin Cilic, who beat Alexander Bublik. 

Quarter-Finals

The four matches in this round are:

  • Ryan Peniston vs Filip Krajinovic

       This match was won by Filip Krajinovic

 

  • Emil Ruusuvuori vs Marin Cilic

       Marin Cilic won this round

 

  • Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Botic van de Zandschulp

        Botic van de Zandschulp won in this match

 

  • Tommy Paul vs Matteo Berrettini

       Matteo Berrettini won this match

Semi-Finals

The semi final saw Botic van de Zandschulp take on Matteo Berrenttini and Filip Krajinovic vs Marin Cilic. The winners here were Matteo Berrettini and Filip Krajinovic taking them into the final. 

The Final

This match was played on Saturday 18th of June and was Matteo Berrettini versus Filip Krajinovic. Ultimately, the winner was Matteo Berrettini.

Men’s Doubles

This tournament had round 1, round 2, quarter-finals, semi-finals and then the final.

Final 

The final saw Lloyd Glasspool & Harri Heliovaara take on Nikola Mektic & Mate Pavic. The winner of the men’s doubles were Nikola Mektic & Mate Pavic. 

Men’s Wheelchair Singles 

The men’s wheelchair singles quarter-finals were played on Friday 17th June, with 6 contestants:

  • Thomas Dodds
  • Stephane Houdet
  • Joachim Gerard
  • Andrew Penney
  • Ben Bartram
  • Dahnon Ward

The matches were as follows:

  • Thomas Dodds vs Stephane Houdet – Stephane Houdet won
  • Joachim Gerard vs Andrew Penney – Joachim Gerard won 
  • Ben Bartram vs Dahnon Ward – Ben Bartram won

Semi-Finals 

In this round, we saw Stephane Houdet beat Ben Bartram and Alfie Hewett was beaten by Joachim Gerard. 

The Final 

The final of the men’s wheelchair finals was Joachim Gerard versus Stephane Houdet. The winner was Joachim Gerard.

Semi-Final

  • Ben Bartram & Dahnon Ward vs Joachim Gerard & Andrew Penney

        Joachim Gerard & Andrew Penney won to progress into the final 

 

  • Alfie Hewett & Stephane Houdet vs Joachim Gerard Andrew Penney

        Alfie Hewett & Stephane Houdet won this to move into the final

Final 

The final saw Alfie Hewett & Stephane Houdet vs Joachim Gerard & Andrew Penney with the winning team being Alfie Hewett & Stephane Houdet.
